Scholarships

The CIS IB DP Scholarship programme reinforces our commitment in promoting and recognising educational excellence, while ensuring equal access to our world-class teaching and learning programmes. The IB Diploma (DP) is a 2 year programme (Grades 11-12) that is recognised by universities around the world. Scholarship applicants must be goal oriented, self motivated leaders who display excellence in academics and sports or the arts.

Scholarship Details

  • Based on academic merit
  • Scholarships include:
    • 100% free tuition for two-year IB DP programme (Grades 11 - 12)
    • Accommodation and incidental expenses are included for overseas applicants. Terms and conditions apply
  • Must be eligible for Grade 11 entry in August 2017

Application Process

Diploma (DP) Programme Scholarship (Grade 11 entry)

If you are interested in applying for a Canadian International School IB Diploma Scholarship programme, please submit the following items with your online application.

  1. Passport photo (in colour).
  2. Two letters of recommendation (the letter of recommendation must include a current phone number or email address for the referee). At least one of these letters of recommendation must come from a current or past teacher familiar with your academic qualifications. CIS student applicants must ask their teacher to send their letter of recommendation directly to admissions.
  3. Copies of your official school transcripts for the past three years
  4. Copy of your current (and valid) passport.
  5. Copy of proof of residency status in Singapore (this can be furnished after arrival if applicable)
  6. Copies of your parent’s / legal guardian's passport and proof of their residency status in Singapore (this can be furnished after arrival if applicable)
  7. An Applicant Essay/Statement that gives CIS a clearer sense of who you are. The essay/statement is to include one or more of the set topics listed below:
    1. Views on issues that you might be passionate about or have academic thought on.
    2. Who or what has influenced you directly and what effect that influence has had?
    3. Why do you feel you are a suitable candidate for the IBDP/Grade 11 & 12 scholarship?
    4. Your future plans
  8. Your essay should be double spaced and no more than one (1) A4 sized page (2 sided) in length. The essay/statement is to include one or more of the set topics listed in point 7. Please be sure to include your name at the top of the essay.
Application opening and closing dates

Applications open on 1 September, and close on 31 January each year. The Admissions Department will get in touch with shortlisted applicants after the submission deadline. Only shortlisted applicants will be notified of the next steps in the application process.

Terms & Conditions

IB DP Scholarship - Conditions of Acceptance

1.

In order to commence the Scholarship Programme, the applicant must obtain approval from the Immigration Checkpoint Authority and the Ministry of Education for the necessary pass/permission to study in Singapore.

2.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme Scholarship at the Canadian International School is subject to a semi-annual review of satisfactory academic progress, effort and commitment. If any of the following conditions have not been met, the scholarship may be terminated. The scholarship recipient shall:

(a)

Maintain 90% attendance (as per the CIS attendance policy).

(b)

Maintain a total International Baccalaureate Diploma score of 36 (out of 42, excluding theory of Knowledge and the Extended Essay) in all four major reporting periods.

(c)

Make satisfactory progress in completing the requirements of the Diploma with regards to Creativity, Action, Service, and the Extended Essay.

(d)

Adhere to the "School Discipline and Code of Conduct", as laid out in the Parent / Student Handbook.

(e)

Be positively involved in the school community outside of the classroom through extracurricular activities and community outreach.

(f)

Complete the programme within a 2-year period.

3.

In the following conditions, the family of the scholarship recipient will reimburse the Canadian International School (Singapore) for the value of the scholarship*:

(a)

Accept a scholarship with another institution during the two years of the programme.

(b)

Be suspended or expelled from the Canadian International School in Singapore for violating the “School Discipline and Code of Conduct”, as laid out in the Parent / Student Handbook.

(c)

The Scholarship is terminated by the Canadian International School (Singapore) for reasons stated in clause 2.

*the amount of the reimbursement shall be calculated from the first day of the scholarship to the end of the current semester of departure.

4.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme scholarship cannot be deferred and must be completed within two years.

5.

The Canadian International School IB DP Scholarship Terms and Conditions will supersede the CIS Terms and Conditions where applicable.

6.

If a student were unsuccessful in the IB Diploma exam and wished to repeat part of, or the entire IB Diploma Programme, the CIS Terms and Conditions would, by default, come into effect as the applicable conditions.
